In recent years, beauty professions such as hairdressing, nail technology, aesthetics, and related fields have experienced significant growth in Greece. Demand is high, as there are strong prospects in the job market. For this reason, many educational institutions have been established, offering specialization, knowledge, and hands-on experience in these fields. There are both public and private schools you can attend. Let’s take a closer look at the available options for pursuing a career in aesthetics, hairdressing, or nail technology.
To become a successful professional, you need proper education from specialized instructors and the opportunity to develop your skills. Do your research, learn about study programs and career prospects, and choose the school that best suits you.
If you are a graduate of Secondary Education (General High School – GEL, Vocational High School – EPAL), SEK, IEK, or even Higher Education (University), you can enroll in a public or private IEK. The duration of studies is 2 years. There is no age limit, and enrollment is open to anyone regardless of age.
Private IEKs require tuition fees, while public IEKs offer free education, with no financial burden.
If you are still a student, you can study a profession at an EPAL. Upon graduation, you obtain a high school diploma and the corresponding specialty degree. EPAL studies are not only for high school students—high school graduates can also enroll and obtain a specialty diploma.
It is important to note that not all schools provide the same professional rights.
If you want to study Aesthetic Arts and obtain a professional license, you must attend the Department of Biomedical Sciences – Aesthetics Sector at the University of West Attica. Admission is only through national exams, and the program lasts 4 years.
Otherwise, by studying at public or private IEKs or EPAL, you can obtain a beauty assistant diploma, which does not allow you to open your own institute but enables you to work as an assistant in beauty centers.
In hairdressing, you can obtain a professional practice license by passing the E.O.P.P.E.P. professional certification exams. After successfully completing your studies at a public or private IEK, you can participate in these exams.
If you hold a specialty diploma from an EPAL, you must complete six months of internship in a hair salon in order to be eligible for the E.O.P.P.E.P. certification exams.
If you are interested in nail technology, you can obtain a professional license and open your own nail care business by completing studies at a public or private IEK in the field of podiatry and nail care. After successfully completing your studies, you can participate in the E.O.P.P.E.P. certification exams and then apply for your professional license.
